Aiming for the 'cultivation of an advanced practice nurse leading the development of advanced cancer medicine'

The Professional Training Plan in Cancer Medicine; "Cultivation of the professional leading the development of advanced cancer medicine" started In FY2012, with the Keio University as a leading university, in cooperation with 10 universities (Kitasato University, International University of Health and Welfare, St. Marianna University School of Medicine, St. Luke's College of Nursing, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Shinshu University, Tokyo Dental College, Tokai University, and University of Yamanashi). 'Promotion of basic research and translational research (TR)" and "Cultivation of human resources for improving the quality of life (QOL) of cancer patients' as new slogans, our target for this period is to cultivate human resources of talent for advanced and high-quality cancer medicine by developing an education in a complementary and synergistic manner at 15 graduate schools in 10 universities. In the Special Course for Nursing, Graduate School of Health Management, we strive to "cultivate an advanced practice nurse leading the development of advanced cancer medicine". In the master's course, for the students in cancer, psychiatric, and gerontological nursing field, we strive to cultivate a nurse specialized for cancer nursing, capable of supporting patients' decision-making for their best treatments and outcomes, having high ability for assessment and practice to keep patients' mental and physical balance, and demonstrating inter-professional leadership in clinical practice where most advanced cancer medicine has been developed. In the doctor's course, we strive to cultivate a researcher specialized for cancer nursing, capable of participating in a translational research (TR), designing and managing an intervention in decision-making support, adherence to treatment, and promotion of self-care ability, proceeding with clinical trials and researches in cooperate or collaborate with other medical professionals, and instilling outcomes in clinical practice.
In addition, by obtaining best treatments and care outcomes for cancer patients and their families, we strive to improve the quality of life (QOL) and plan/hold a symposium; "Cancer and QOL" with interdisciplinary cancer team members. In the symposium, we will share pressing issues about cancer and QOL, increase awareness and make a proposal for building a system to enhance the vitality of patients, their families, and medical staffs, and work through the improvement of the quality of supportive care.
